On Monday night, a magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck parts of Mexico, as confirmed by the US Geological Survey (USGS). As a precaution, some residents in the capital evacuated buildings due to a seismic alarm, but there were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries. The USGS reported that the earthquake's epicentre was near Puerto Escondido, a Pacific beach resort located in the southern state of Oaxaca. Oaxaca Governor Salomon Jara took to Twitter to request that authorities investigate any possible damage and put in place the necessary security protocols.
