In a letter to President Xi Jinping, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged to advance cooperative ties with China, according to a report from the North's state media, KCNA, on Sunday.
"I believe ... the DPRK-China friendly and cooperative relations would steadily develop in conformity with the requirements of the new era and the desire of the two peoples in the future," Kim said in the letter sent on Thursday.
The letter was in response to Xi's congratulations on North Korea's founding anniversary earlier this month, in which the Chinese leader stated his willingness to improve working-level cooperation and strategic communication.
The North's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, is abbreviated as DPRK.
