6.6 Earthquake in Pakistan and Afghanistan-11 Killed and 100 Injured

On Tuesday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 hit Pakistan and Afghanistan, sending terrified citizens fleeing from their homes and places of business. The Associated Press adds that at least 11 people have died in Afghanistan and Pakistan. A spokesman of Pakistan's emergency services stated, in the Swat valley region, more than 100 casualties were sent to hospitals.

Although the earthquake's epicenter was in Afghanistan, it was also felt in neighboring Tajikistan and caused landslides in parts of the hilly regions According to the Associated Press. While on the other hand, according to Pakistani media sources, some residential structures in Islamabad have also developed cracks.

The magnitude 6.5 earthquake's epicenter was located 40 kilometers (25 miles) south-southeast of Jurm in Afghanistan's hilly Hindukush area, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

Moreover, the earthquake occurred 188 kilometers (116 miles) beneath the Earth's surface in an area that borders Pakistan and Tajikistan, they mentioned.

The earthquake was powerful enough that tumors were felt in North India as well. Citizens in many places panicked and rushed out of their homes.
