Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced on Twitter that the world's first 7.2-metre high-rise Vande Bharat train has begun its trial on the Delhi-Jaipur route. The modified semi-high-speed train set was seen running on tracks, with high-rise pantographs fitted on the roofs of some coaches. The train is expected to cut travel time between the cities and complete its journey within two-three hours. However, technical changes are needed on this route before the Vande Bharat Express can begin operations fully. These include increasing speed by making certain changes in the track and installing a double-distant signalling system, among other initiatives. The Vande Bharat train is indigenously manufactured, with state-of-the-art passenger amenities, and the Railways plans to run 400 such trains across India in the next three years.
