Wife of Top IPS Officer Named in Haryana Cop’s Mysterious Suicide Case

In a strange and troubling case unfolding in Haryana, the wife of a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer has been named in connection with the mysterious suicide of a Haryana police officer. The developments have raised many questions regarding allegations of corruption, caste discrimination, and harassment within the state police force.

The case centres on Y Puran Kumar, a senior IPS officer who served as an Inspector General at the Police Training Centre in Rohtak. Last week, Puran Kumar was found dead at his residence in Chandigarh, having apparently taken his own life. In an eight-page final note, he accused senior police officers of mental harassment and caste discrimination, details that shocked many and brought attention to deep-rooted problems in the police department.

Adding to the mystery, another police officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sandeep Kumar, who was investigating alleged corruption against Puran Kumar, also died by suicide just days later. Sandeep Kumar shot himself at a field in Rohtak and left behind a video message and a note. In the video, he accused Puran Kumar of corruption and suggested that the IPS officer took his life to avoid exposure of his wrongdoings.

The investigation took a twist when the wife of ASI Sandeep Kumar filed a First Information Report (FIR) naming Amneet Kumar, the wife of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. Amneet Kumar, an IAS officer herself, along with her brother and others, are now facing legal scrutiny in connection with the case. The FIR was registered on charges including abetment to suicide and criminal conspiracy.

The Haryana government responded swiftly to these events. Senior officers mentioned in Puran Kumar’s note, including the state Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur, were sent on leave. Additionally, the Rohtak Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya was transferred as the investigation unfolded.

The case has drawn public and political attention, with accusations of corruption, caste-based discrimination, and even links between police and criminals being brought to light. Families of both officers are demanding a fair and impartial inquiry to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served.

In recent developments, the cremation of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar took place after an autopsy, and his wife Amneet Kumar has voiced hopes for an unbiased investigation into the incidents. Meanwhile, the authorities continue their probe amid the widespread concern over the integrity of the police force in Haryana. This unsettling story highlights the serious issues faced by law enforcement in the region and raises urgent questions about corruption, discrimination, and accountability within the police system. As the investigation continues, all eyes remain on Haryana to see how justice will be delivered.
