Vygr Maharashtra: Pune Metro Phase 1 has now arrived

On a visit to Pune, Maharashtra, today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the extended routes of Pune Metro Phase-I. The Phugewadi station to Civil Court station and the Garware College station to Ruby Hall-Clinic station are two of the newest lines that are now fully operational. Prior to this, they were partially functional since March 2022. The introduction of these extended lines aims to address various urban issues, such as traffic congestion, pollution, and road accidents, while also reducing travel time and expenses.

New Routes Enhancing Connectivity

The two newly unveiled lines connect essential locations within Pune city, providing enhanced connectivity for residents and commuters. The Garware College to Ruby Clinic stretch spans 4.7 km and comprises seven stations, including Garware College, Deccan Gymkhana, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Civil Court, Mangalwar Peth, Pune Railway Station, and Ruby Hall Clinic. Meanwhile, the Pimpri Chinchwad to Shivajinagar Court line covers 6.9 km and features four stations: Phugewadi, Dapodi, Bopodi, Shivaji Nagar, and Civil Court. Notably, the Civil Court metro station is an impressive engineering achievement, being one of the deepest metro stations in the country, constructed at a depth of 33.1 meters.

Affordable Ticket Pricing for Inclusivity

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has introduced a new fare system for Pune Metro to ensure that ticket rates remain affordable for all passengers, ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 35. This measure aims to make metro services accessible to a wider section of the population. To go from Civil Court Metro Station to Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Metro Station, for instance, would cost Rs 20, and from Vanaz Metro Station to Ruby Hall Metro Station, Rs 25. Additionally, Maha-Metro offers a 30 per cent concession on ticket fares for students and weekend travellers, encouraging regular commuters to opt for the metro as their preferred mode of transportation.
