Vygr Maharashtra: Only eco-friendly idols, BMC's order for Ganeshotsav

Though the BJP supports the PoP Ganesh idols, on the other hand, BMC strictly put restrictions on them.  BMC sent circulars this week to all wards regarding the compulsion of eco-friendly Ganesh idols, this Ganeshotsav.

An order by BMC says that idols should not be more than 4 feet and they should be made from Shadu (clay) or any other eco- friendly material. This circular is specially issued for all the household idols of Bappa in Mumbai. There is another strict rule from this year which says that immersion of household idols should be done in artificial ponds only.

BMC said that it will provide space as well as Shadu for free of cost for sculptors on a first come, first serve basis. It will be the responsibility of all sculptors and stockists that the order should be followed. It is compulsory for them to provide information regarding the number of Shadu idols and PoP idols and their heights to BMC. To easily classify the idols, BMC mentioned that there has to be a green circle behind eco-friendly idols and a red circle behind PoP idols.

“As BJP is still supporting the PoP idols, there will be a complete ban on it from next year”, said BMC.
