In Uttar Pradesh's Etawah, a regrettable incident occurred when a fire broke out in the S6 coach of the Delhi-Saharsa Vaishali Superfast Express, which was travelling from Delhi to Saharsa in Bihar. The incident took place at approximately 2:30 am, resulting in 19 passengers sustaining minor burn injuries and respiratory distress. They were immediately provided with medical assistance and admitted for necessary care.
Uday Shankar, the Railway CO, has informed a fire has originated near the pantry car, necessitating an immediate response to address the situation. Despite the commendable efforts where individuals tried to extinguish the flames using water-filled buckets, an investigation is currently being conducted to ascertain the underlying cause of the fire.
Notably, eleven passengers with breathing issues were kindly referred to PGI, while eight others received medical attention at a district hospital for minor burns.
This incident closely follows another fire-related episode involving the New Delhi-Darbhanga Superfast Express in Etawah the day before, where three coaches were affected. Preliminary findings in that case suggested a short circuit as the ignition source, resulting in minor injuries among passengers.
It is important to mention that passengers encountered difficulties, such as overcrowding beyond the train's capacity, as they quickly exited the train during the fire incident. The repetition of fire-related incidents highlights the necessity for a comprehensive safety evaluation within the railway system.
