A shocking case of child abuse from Noida’s Sector 137 has sent shockwaves across the nation, raising urgent questions about the safety of daycare centres in India. In a deeply disturbing incident caught on CCTV, a 15-month-old toddler was allegedly slapped, punched, bitten, thrown to the floor, and beaten with a plastic bat by a teenage attendant — while the daycare owner, reportedly present at the scene, did nothing to stop the assault.
The accused, identified as Sonali, a 16-year-old from Shahdara village, has been arrested. The daycare owner, Charu, is also facing legal action for her alleged inaction and threats to the victim’s family.
How the Horror Unfolded
The victim’s parents, Monica and Sandeep Kumar, residents of the Paras Tierea society in Noida’s Sector 137, had been sending their daughter to the daycare facility — named Blippi — for two hours daily since May 21, 2024. Before enrolling their child, the couple had taken precautions: they inspected the premises, confirmed the presence of five CCTV cameras in all rooms and common areas, and received verbal assurances from Charu that their daughter’s safety was the facility’s highest priority.
But on Monday, when Monica arrived to pick up her daughter, she immediately sensed something was wrong. The toddler was crying uncontrollably and appeared unusually distressed. At home, while changing her clothes, Monica noticed circular bite marks on both thighs.
“The doctor confirmed these were human bite marks. He also told me our daughter appeared to have been tortured because she was visibly scared,” Monica recalled.
CCTV Footage Reveals Shocking Abuse
The couple confronted the daycare staff about the injuries. Initially, Monica was told her daughter had “some infection from home.” Unconvinced, she insisted on viewing CCTV footage.
What followed was four days of delays. Staff members cited technical glitches, snapped wires, and missing applications to avoid sharing the recordings. It was only after police intervention on Thursday that the footage was finally handed over.
The videos revealed an appalling series of assaults:
-
Sonali slapping the toddler multiple times
-
Throwing her to the floor and pushing her off a swing
-
Punching her and beating her with a plastic bat
-
Biting her thighs
-
Inserting a pencil into her mouth
Monica says that despite her daughter’s frantic cries, Charu — allegedly present at the time — made no effort to comfort or protect the child. Instead, the parents allege both the attendant and the owner misbehaved with them and even issued threats when confronted.
A horrific video from a daycare in Noida has surfaced, showing a woman worker hitting and biting a 15-month-old toddler. A case against her was registered, and she was arrested.

Untrained and Underage Attendant
Investigations revealed that Sonali, far from being a trained childcare professional, was only 16 years old and should have been attending school. She had joined the facility just 10 days earlier, without any formal training or vetting. Her parents work as domestic helpers in the same sector.
Charu, the daycare owner since 2021, claimed she believed Sonali was 21 years old based on an identity card presented at hiring. She alleged she later found out about the assault and maintained that the child had been crying since her father dropped her off.
Legal Action and Wider Impact
Police from Sector 142 police station swiftly registered a case under sections:
-
115(2) — Voluntarily causing hurt
-
351(2) — Criminal intimidation
-
352 — Intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace
All sections fall under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The Child Welfare Committee has indicated that charges under the Juvenile Justice Act may also be added. The toddler’s medical examination confirmed multiple injury marks.
In a chilling development, another family from the same residential complex has come forward, claiming their child was also abused at the daycare. They intend to file a police complaint, raising concerns that this may not have been an isolated case.
Authorities and Community React
City magistrate Vivek Bhadoriya urged resident welfare associations to actively monitor commercial activities, including daycare centres, within gated communities to prevent such incidents.
The incident has sparked outrage among parents across Delhi-NCR, with many demanding stricter regulations, mandatory background checks, and constant surveillance for childcare workers.
Sandeep Kumar, visibly shaken, summed up the ordeal:
“I want action against the daycare owner and the attendant so that such an incident does not happen with another child. These were very tough days. I could not go to work. My wife could not sleep.”
The Bigger Picture — Safety in Daycare Centres
This case has reignited discussions about the vetting process for daycare staff, the role of CCTV monitoring, and parental rights to footage. While CCTV is often cited as a safety measure, this incident shows that access to footage can be delayed or obstructed, making timely intervention impossible.
Experts say that ensuring child safety requires:
-
Thorough background checks on all staff
-
Mandatory training in childcare and first aid
-
Zero-tolerance policies for abuse
-
Real-time parental access to CCTV feeds
-
Regular inspections by child welfare authorities
The Noida daycare assault is more than just a disturbing news headline — it’s a wake-up call for parents, authorities, and policymakers. A child’s vulnerability demands unwavering vigilance from those entrusted with their care. Until stringent safety protocols are universally enforced and violators are held accountable, incidents like this will continue to haunt families.
