Three Inter-District Burglars Arrested in Odisha; Valuables Worth ₹25 Lakh Recovered

Three individuals were arrested in Jeypore, Odisha, for their involvement in a series of burglaries that have alarmed the local community. On February 20, 2025, the Jeypore Town police apprehended three suspects: Bijaya Beniya, also known as Rinku Beniya (23), Kanhu Muduli (19), and G. Satyanarayana Patra (26). Their arrest followed an investigation into a burglary that occurred at a tractor showroom on February 17, where thieves made off with ₹2.5 lakh in cash and important land documents stored in a safety locker.

The police's investigation led them to Rinku's residence in Hatapada, where they arrested him. During questioning, Rinku confessed to his involvement in the crime along with Kanhu and two minors. This confession opened the door to uncovering a larger network of thefts committed by this group.

The gang is believed to be responsible for multiple burglaries across Jeypore. Their targets included a marble showroom, a chocolate agency, a chaff mill, a grocery store, and even a bike showroom. The stolen items ranged from ₹92,000 worth of chocolates to smartwatches and cash. The police reported that they recovered various items from the suspects during their investigation.

In a significant operation involving extensive searches, the police managed to recover an iron cash box from a canal near Gandhi Chowk after six hours of searching. Along with this cash box, they found additional stolen items including ₹50,000 in cash, a printer, a cash counting machine, several smartwatches, and other electronic goods.

Satyanarayana Patra was also arrested for purchasing stolen goods from the gang. This connection further highlighted the extensive network of crime operating in the area.
