We are honoured to commemorate the 166th birth anniversary of the renowned freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, whose indomitable spirit and unwavering commitment to the cause of Indian independence serve as a timeless inspiration for generations to come.
Bhagat Singh, born in 1907 in a small village in Punjab, India, displayed a strong determination to free his homeland from British colonialism from a young age. His impressive intellect and strong sense of justice made him a formidable presence in the fight for independence. A significant event in Bhagat Singh's life was his protest against the oppressive Rowlatt Act of 1919, which granted the British government extensive powers to silence dissent. In reaction to this injustice, Bhagat Singh and his companions pledged to resist this tyranny.
One of the most courageous acts of opposition was the bombing of the Legislative Council in 1929. Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt released non-lethal smoke bombs at the Central Legislative Council in Delhi, with the intention of expressing their dissatisfaction with oppressive laws. This act of civil disobedience exemplified their unwavering dedication to the cause.
Bhagat Singh's philosophy is strongly based on the concept of a fair and inclusive society. He envisioned an India that is free from any form of exploitation or prejudice. His writings, including the renowned pamphlet "Why I Am an Atheist," demonstrate the profoundness of his intellect and unwavering beliefs. Unfortunately, Bhagat Singh's life was tragically shortened when he bravely sacrificed himself at the tender age of 23. He faced the gallows with remarkable bravery and conviction, leaving a lasting impression on the pages of Indian history.
Today, we respectfully commemorate Bhagat Singh, not only for his courageous acts of resistance but also for his visionary ideals of a free and equitable India. His ongoing legacy serves as an invaluable inspiration for those who seek to create a fair and inclusive society.
On the occasion of the 166th anniversary of his birth, let us take inspiration from the remarkable life of this esteemed patriot. May we persistently strive towards forging a better India, one that truly embodies the principles for which Bhagat Singh selflessly gave his life.
