Telangana transport unions will go on strike on October 1

The Telangana State Motor Transport Vehicles Joint Action Committee (JAC), which represents truck drivers, taxi drivers, autorickshaw drivers, and others, will strike from the first week of October. On Saturday, the JAC delivered its strike notice to road transport authorities. The JAC has asked for tax exemptions, increased auto-meter reading, and implementation of the Vahana Mitra programme by the transport welfare board.

The government of Andhra Pradesh has announced that car, taxi and maxi cab self-employed drivers will get Rs 10,000 in financial assistance each year under the YSR Vahana Mitra scheme. The announcement also said that the governor had sent her warmest wishes to TSRTC employees as they took up their new roles as government employees.

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (absorption of employees into government service) bill of 2023 had been tabled in the assembly earlier after being forwarded to the law secretary for advice. The governor had made ten recommendations on the basis of representations made by the employees and in the interest of the corporation.

The statement from the Raj Bhavan said, “The Governor is satisfied that the recommendations have been acted upon after a thorough examination of the government's response to the ten recommendations made in the light of the views of the employees and the overall interest of the corporation.”
