At least 25 people were killed and dozens injured in a terrorist attack on a police station in northwest Pakistan. Islamist militants rammed an explosive-laden truck into the station, causing a massive explosion. Multiple suicide bombers then stormed the compound, detonating explosives and opening fire on security personnel.
The police station was being used as a base camp by the Pakistani Army. It is suspected that military ammunition stored inside the base may have also exploded during the attack. The death toll is expected to rise as efforts are underway to recover bodies from the ruins. Tahreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP), a recently formed Pakistani Taliban group, claimed responsibility for the attack.
The incident has prompted an emergency declaration at district hospitals and the closure of schools and colleges in the area. This attack is the latest in a series of terrorist incidents in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, with the region experiencing multiple attacks in recent months. In September, a mosque blast in the province claimed the lives of at least 57 people. The attack highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by Pakistan and the threat posed by militant groups in the region.
