Stone pelting spurs Section 144 in Shivamogga, Karnataka

Communal violence flared up in Shivamogga district, Karnataka, last night, injuring 4 people, leading to the imposition of Section 144 of the CrPC by the district administration in the Ragi Gudda area. This decision was made in response to reports of stone-pelting incidents. The measure aims to prevent any further disturbances, as stated by the local police.

Reports from the PTI news agency indicate that an enraged mob allegedly attacked houses and vehicles, causing injuries to several individuals. The violence is said to have been triggered by rumours of stone pelting during the Eid Milad procession.

Shivamogga SP GK Mithun Kumar informed the ANI news agency that arrests have already been made in connection with the incident, based on video evidence and information gathered. Section 144 has been enforced as a precautionary step, and a case has been registered. The situation is currently stable, with the exception of Shanti Nagar and Ragi Gudda, and strict actions will be taken against the culprits.

A police official reassured the public that the situation is now under control, following a stone pelting incident in Ragigudda. They successfully dispersed the crowd and emphasized the importance of refraining from spreading rumours on social media platforms. It's worth noting that the same area witnessed protests on September 30th related to a cutout displayed during the procession.
