Protests Across the Globe
On Sunday, diaspora Indians held protests in 130 cities across 25 countries, demanding justice for the trainee doctor. In Kolkata, thousands hit the streets at midnight to mark a month of the crime on August 9. Protesters formed human chains during the third "Reclaim the Night" rally as they shouted their demand for justice.

Political Fallout and Criticism of the Government
The government of West Bengal, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has faced criticism over the handling of the case. Opposition parties and activists have demanded her resignation, alleging administrative laxity in taking enough action in this regard.
The victim's parents had accused the Kolkata Police of attempting to bribe them with money to keep quiet over their daughter's hurried cremation. TMC leader Jawhar Sircar had recently quit his post as a Rajya Sabha MP in the wake of the party not taking enough steps in this case. BJP has charged TMC with tampering with Kolkata police and the crime scene.
