Mass Resignation Letter Sent On Health Grounds
Doctors at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have drawn the ultimate notch. They have threatened to go ahead with mass resignation by submitting a letter to the director of medical education. This comes when six of their colleagues are continuing with an indefinite hunger strike following the rape and murder of a junior doctor on August 9. The hunger strike began on Tuesday with the sole aim of pushing for better working conditions and urgent government action.
Copies of the resignation letter, which have now reached 47 signers, expressed deep concern at the declining health of the striking doctors. The health of our colleagues is deteriorating at an alarming rate,
states the letter. The physicians demanded how to continue providing patient care in these conditions and called upon the government to engage in dialogue with them immediately.
Quote from the Letter
We, the undersigned doctors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, have been striving to provide optimal hospital services. However, the current conditions have made it increasingly challenging to deliver the quality of patient care that is essential.

Senior Doctors United
The senior doctors and the faculty members further said that they are ready to take the protest to the next level as well if nothing happens from the government side. "If the situation demands, we will also proceed with individual resignations," a senior doctor told The Indian Express. The mass resignations, the doctors claim, will put pressure on the authorities to get fast work done in fulfilling the demands.
On the other side, junior doctor Sayan Mandal said, This will hopefully create more pressure. The system is run by seniors… if they resign, it will collapse.
Another doctor termed the mass resignation campaign "a welcome step."

Protests and Hunger Strikes Disrupt Healthcare Services Across Bengal
Protests at RG Kar Medical College began just hours after the tragic incident on August 9, crippling health services throughout West Bengal. Doctors want better protection, a better work environment, and justice for their colleague who lost his life in the incident. The strike has brought to a grinding halt medical services as protests have even become widespread in other hospitals in the state.
Junior doctors have announced a 12-hour hunger strike to start from 9 am on Tuesday, and six of them have opted for the indefinite hunger strike. In addition, the doctors will stage a symbolic rally starting from College Square in central Kolkata to Dharmatala later in the evening, although they are yet to receive police permission for the march.

The charge sheet is likely to be filed in court by the Central Bureau of Investigation
This afternoon, Sealdah's special court is likely to receive the chargesheet to be filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the case. The agency is expected to nail civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy, an August arrestee, under sections 64 (rape), 66 (punishment for causing death or resulting in a persistent vegetative state of the victim), and 101 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
This may be a turning point in the case as it features in the charge sheet, and everyone - from the doctors to the mass population - awaits justice.
