Rainfall in Delhi Causes Temperature to Drop 3 Degrees Below Season's Average

On Monday, the national capital experienced gusty winds and rain, which provided some relief. The breezy conditions caused a slight decrease in temperature to 30.5 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees lower than the average for this season.

Rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning, was observed in various parts, including Noida, Indirapuram, south Delhi, and east Delhi.

Mahesh Palawat, the Vice President of Skymet Weather specializing in meteorology and climate change, mentioned in a post that there were heavy thunder and rain clouds moving across Delhi and NCR, travelling from west to east. He also warned of the possibility of intense rain and hail storms, advising caution. In another post, he pointed out that the combination of light rain and cool winds had brought down the maximum temperature in Delhi by 5 degrees, shifting it from 36.5 to 30.5 in the past 24 hours. He further suggested that the minimum temperature might also kindly see a drop.

The air on Monday had a slight chill. At 9 a.m., the Air Quality Index (AQI) was 195, but by 4 p.m., it had worsened to fall into the 'poor' category with a recorded AQI of 207. However, there was a slight improvement by 7 pm, placing it in the 'moderate' category with an AQI of 200.

The AQI scale classifies air quality in the following manner: air quality is deemed "good" when it falls within the range of 0-50, "satisfactory" when it ranges from 51-100, "moderate" when it falls between 101-200, "poor" when it is within 201-300, "very poor" when it ranges from 301-400, and anything above 400 is categorized as "severe-plus".

According to the IMD, it is anticipated that the air quality will remain in the 'moderate' category on Tuesday, however, there is a possibility of it declining to 'poor' on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the weather department, Tuesday is expected to have a mostly cloudy sky, with a chance of light rain or thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 31 and 20 degrees Celsius, respectively.
