Barely over a year and a half after she became the Indian Olympic Association's first lady president PT Usha. The sporting legend, is facing no-confidence motion. The Special General Meeting of the IOA is scheduled for October 25 which will address this issue, as issued by the Executive Council. The motion has been brought forward due to alleged constitutional violations and actions perceived as harmful to Indian sports.
Charges Against Usha
PT Usha has been at odds with several members Executive Council of IOA. She has issued show cause notice to multiple Executive Council members for allegedly violating eligibility norms. PT Usha was accused of "high-handedness." Another challenge Usha is facing is that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has questioned her regarding the contract with Reliance for the recent Olympics. The agreement between the IOA and Reliance for the hospitality lounge at the Paris Olympics was taken by Usha without proper procedure, which resulted in Rs 24 crore loss to the association. The CAG has alleged PT Usha for ‘undue favours’ to Reliance. But she has strongly refuted these allegations.
Discussion will revolve around several matters like no-confidence motion against IOA head. Review of the powers of the president of the IOA, sponsorship contracts launched by Usha and a loan of Rs 1.75 crore to the Weightlifting Federation of India. The show-cause notices issued to prominent members, including IOA treasurer Sahdev Yadav and others, will be discussed in the Special General Meeting of the IOA.
