Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra filed her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election, marking her electoral debut. She was accompanied by her mother, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, when filing her nomination. The by-election has has caught attention as Priyanka contests to the seat from where her brother Rahul Gandhi had vacated his seat for her.
Priyanka Gandhi reached Kerala with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday evening. The two leaders landed at Mysore before heading to Wayanad. They received a warm welcome at Mysore by the Congress supporters and local residents. This by-election will be for the first time Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will take part electoral politics.
The Wayanad seat has been vacated by Rahul Gandhi. In a social media post on X, he said, "The people of Wayanad have a special place in my heart, and I cannot imagine a better advocate for them than my sister, Priyanka Gandhi. She will be an impassioned champion of the needs of Wayanad and a strong voice in Parliament".
Roadshow Before Nomination
Before filing her nomination papers on Wednesday, Priyanka Gandhi, accompanied by Rahul Gandhi, led a roadshow from Kalpetta New Bus Stand in Wayanad. The roadshow attracted supporters and people of Wayanad.
