Srinagar: PM Modi Leads 10th International Yoga Day Celebrations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the 10th International Yoga Day celebrations today from Jammu and Kashmir, a significant event that garnered both national and global attention. 

The picturesque banks of Srinagar's Dal Lake at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Complex was the venue for this year's celebrations, which highlighted the theme "Yoga for Self and Society". 

Change in Plans due to Rain 

Due Moderate to heavy rain throughout the Kashmir Valley, including the area around Dal Lake, the event initially scheduled to be held on the lawns of the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on the banks of the Dal Lake was.

The 30-minute yoga session, initially scheduled to start at 7 am, experienced a delay. Moreover, the number of attendees was also reduced.

Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Ayush Minister Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, also performed various yoga asanas in an indoor hall along with PM Modi.

While addressing a gathering in Srinagar, PM Modi said, “When we are peaceful within, we can also make a positive impact on the world…Yoga is making new ways of positive change in the society.”

“Yoga has helped people realise that their welfare is linked to the welfare of the world around them.”

"Wherever I go, there is hardly any (international) leader who does not talk to me about the benefits of yoga," he said.

"In many countries, yoga is becoming a part of the people's daily lives,"

"Ancient form of meditation was fast becoming popular is becoming popular in Turkmenistan, Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, and Germany"

“In India, from Rishikesh and Kashi to Kerala, a new connection of Yoga tourism is being seen. Tourists from across the world are coming to India because they want to learn authentic Yoga in India...People are even keeping personal Yoga trainers for their fitness...All of these have created new opportunities for the youth, new employment opportunities for youth."

International Yoga day

PM Modi has led Yoga Day celebrations at various iconic locations, including Delhi's Kartavya Path, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, and Jabalpur. Last year, he led the event at the UN Headquarters in New York, which is expected to draw more attention to the upcoming programme in Srinagar.

ISRO is organizing 'Yoga for Space' for International Yoga Day 2024, where all scientists and officials will perform yoga together following the Common Yoga Protocol. The Gaganyaan project team will also join the global International Yoga Day campaign.

BSF organized a Yoga Day 2024 event at the Sam Sand Dunes in the Thar Desert, where Indian Army officers performed yoga in Jaisalmer.
