PM Modi Mumbai Visit- PM to lay foundation stone for twin tunnel

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Mumbai on July 13, Saturday to inaugurate and lay the foundation for various projects with a combined investment of approximately Rs 29,400 crore. This noteworthy development was confirmed in an official announcement from the Prime Minister's Office.

  1. 5:30 PM – NESCO Exhibition Centre, Goregaon:
    The Prime Minister will commence the event at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, where he will launch several infrastructure projects concerning roads, railways, and ports. This initiative aims to significantly improve Mumbai's connectivity and infrastructure.

  2. 7:00 PM – INS Secretariat, Bandra Kurla Complex:
    After the launch in Goregaon, PM Modi will travel to the Indian News Service (INS) Secretariat located in the Bandra Kurla Complex to inaugurate the INS Towers. This new facility is designed to serve as a modern office space for INS members, establishing itself as a central hub for the newspaper industry in Mumbai.

Key Projects to Be Launched
  1. Thane Borivali Tunnel Project:
    A major highlight of the visit is the laying of the foundation stone for the Thane Borivali Tunnel Project, valued at Rs 16,600 crore, initiated by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). This 11.8 km twin-tube tunnel will connect the Western Express Highway at Borivali to Thane Ghodbander Road, running beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. It will reduce the journey from Thane to Borivali by 12 km, saving approximately one hour of travel time.

  2. Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project:
    The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project, which carries an estimated cost of over Rs 6,300 crore. This 6.65 km road will enhance connectivity from the Western Express Highway at Goregaon to the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, providing direct access to the proposed airport in Navi Mumbai and the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.

  3. Kalyan Yard Remodelling and Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal:
    In Navi Mumbai, PM Modi will launch the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and the Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe. The Kalyan Yard project will separate long-distance and suburban traffic, thereby increasing the yard's capacity to manage more trains and alleviating congestion. The Gati Shakti terminal, covering over 32,600 sq meters, is expected to enhance local employment opportunities and serve as an additional terminal for handling cement and other commodities.

  4. Central Railway’s Enhancements:
    Prime Minister Modi will dedicate new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and will extend platforms 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station. These expansions will allow for longer trains, thereby increasing passenger capacity and improving overall operational efficiency.

  5. Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana:
    The Prime Minister will also introduce the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, with an investment of around Rs 5,600 crore. This internship program aims to combat youth unemployment by providing skill enhancement and industry exposure for individuals aged 18 to 30 years.
