Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed his confidence that India’s Olympic-bound contingent will make the country proud and live up to the aspirations of 140 crore people. India will be sending close to 120 athletes to Paris, with hopes of surpassing their Tokyo Games tally of seven medals, which included Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold in the javelin throw.
“Interacted with our contingent heading to Paris for the Olympics. I am confident our athletes will give their best and make India proud. Their life journeys and success give hope to 140 crore Indians,” the Prime Minister posted on ‘X’ after meeting a large group of Paris-bound athletes. The contingent included shooters, archers, track and field athletes, and support staff.

Inspiring Interactions with Athletes
The contingent was accompanied by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse, and Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha. Prime Minister Modi also shared images of his interactions with the athletes and support staff, including notable figures such as badminton coach Pullela Gopichand and shooting sport high-performance director Pierre Beauchamp.
In a virtual interaction, Modi spoke with Neeraj Chopra, who aims to defend his gold medal in Paris, as well as boxer Nikhat Zareen and two-time Olympic medallist shuttler PV Sindhu. These interactions highlighted the personal journeys and achievements of these athletes, providing inspiration and encouragement to millions of Indians.
Welcoming the T20 World Cup Champions
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi also welcomed the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team, which recently won the T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa. The team arrived in Delhi early morning after being stranded in Bridgetown, Barbados due to a category 4 hurricane.
Modi described his conversation with the T20 World Cup-winning team as memorable, discussing their journey at the recently concluded ICC event held in the USA and the Caribbean. The Prime Minister’s engagement with both the Olympic-bound athletes and the cricket champions underscores the nation’s pride and hopes pinned on their sporting heroes.
