The expressway, built as part of the flagship Bharatmala Pariyojana(BMP) of the Union Government, is expected to cut travel time between the two major cities of Karnataka (Bengaluru and Mysuru ) in 90 minutes. In addition to improving connectivity between Bengaluru and Mysuru, this expressway will reduce travel times from Bengaluru to famous tourist destinations like Coorg, Ooty, Kodaikanal, and Wayanad.
The 119-kilometre-long six- to ten-lane highway is a part of NH-275. The expressway, which connects the "Silicon Valley of India" with Karnataka's cultural capital, was built in two phases: from Bengaluru to Nidaghatta (58 km) and from Nidaghatta to Mysuru (61 km). The distance between the two cities used to take approximately three hours, but now it only takes slightly more than an hour. According to The Indian Express, the road has four Road-Over-Bridges (ROBs), 50 underpasses, 19 large bridges, and 44 small bridges.

In 2019, the expressway's foundation was laid, and the entire project cost INR 8,480 crores to construct. At a public rally held in Mandya district, the Prime Minister dedicated the expressway to the people of Karnataka. According to Hindustan Times, PM Modi laid the foundation for the 92 km long Mysuru-Kushalnagar highway during the event.
