PM Modi Extends Heartfelt Wishes on Nagaland Statehood Day

Nagaland, nestled in the northeastern part of India, joyously commemorated its 61th Statehood Day on December 1, 2023. This auspicious day not only marks Nagaland's inception as a separate state on December 1, 1963, with Kohima as its capital but also heralds the commencement of the Hornbill Festival, a vibrant celebration unique to this region.

Key Facts About Nagaland:
The State of Nagaland Act, of 1962, was pivotal in granting statehood to Nagaland, underscoring its distinctive identity within the Indian Union.

Historical Background:
Post-Independence in 1947, the Naga territory was initially part of Assam. However, a robust nationalist movement emerged, advocating for a political union of the Naga tribes. In 1963, Nagaland achieved statehood, following the resolution that it should become an integral part of the Indian Union.

Geography:
Bordered by Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Assam, with Myanmar to the east, Nagaland's capital, Kohima, sits in its southern expanse. The state experiences a Monsoonal climate, characterized by an annual rainfall ranging between 70 and 100 inches.

Nagaland boasts diverse wildlife in protected areas like Intanki National Park, Singphan Wildlife Sanctuary, Pulie Badze Wildlife Sanctuary, and Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary.

Major Festival:
The Hornbill Festival, held annually from December 1 to 10, is a testament to Nagaland's cultural richness. Named after the revered Hornbill bird, this festival, initiated in 2000, serves to showcase Nagaland's allure to tourists.
