PM Modi, during his visit to Varanasi on Tuesday, announced and inaugurated several major development projects for the city and nearby regions.
On this occasion, he laid the foundation stone and inaugurated projects worth around ₹6,350 crore. He also attended a women’s conference where a large number of women from across the region were present.
‘I Have Come to Seek Blessings for a Big Goal’
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said that India’s mission to become a developed nation is progressing continuously, and women’s power is its strongest pillar.
He stated, “As the Member of Parliament from Kashi and as the Prime Minister of the country, I have come to seek your blessings for achieving a major goal in the national interest. This goal is to implement reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. I have come here today to seek the blessings of Matru Shakti.”
He added that women’s welfare has always been a top priority in his government’s policies.
Targets Congress and SP Over Women’s Reservation Bill
PM Modi strongly criticized the Indian National Congress and the Samajwadi Party over the Women’s Reservation Bill.
He said, “Recently, due to parties like the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, our efforts could not succeed in Parliament. However, I assure all my sisters that no stone will be left unturned to ensure that you get your rightful reservation.”
He also highlighted the spiritual significance of Kashi, referring to it as the land of divine powers like Maa Ganga and other revered deities.
48 Completed Projects Dedicated to the Nation
The Prime Minister dedicated 48 completed projects worth over ₹1,050 crore to the nation. These include the widening of the Varanasi–Azamgarh road, inauguration of rail overbridges in Kajjakpura and Kadipur, and a 55 MLD sewage treatment plant in Bhagwanpur.
Additionally, 30 rural drinking water schemes were launched under the Jal Jeevan Mission to improve access to clean water in villages.
Boost to Tourism and Cultural Development
PM Modi also inaugurated several projects aimed at enhancing cultural and tourism infrastructure. These include the redevelopment of Chandravati Ghat, tourism development near Sarnath, and beautification of Sant Ravidas Park in Nagwa.
These initiatives are expected to strengthen Varanasi’s position as a major religious and cultural destination.
New Trains Flagged Off to Improve Connectivity
The Prime Minister flagged off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains—Varanasi to Pune (Hadapsar) and Ayodhya to Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus). These trains are expected to improve connectivity between states and boost religious tourism.
He also laid the foundation stone for railway expansion projects, including additional lines and a rail-cum-road bridge over the Ganga River.
Foundation Laid for Over 112 New Projects
Apart from completed works, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for more than 112 new projects worth around ₹5,300 crore.
These include sewerage and water supply schemes under AMRUT 2.0, a 500-bed multi-speciality hospital, market complexes, pond redevelopment, solar power plants, and other infrastructure projects aimed at holistic regional development.
