PIB's Fact Check Unit Cracks Down 12 YouTube Channels for Spreading Fake News

The Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau, under the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry, claimed on Thursday that it had busted 134 videos from 12 YouTube channels. The videos were hosted by several YouTube channels, including NitiGyan4U, KLOnlineStudy, Sarkari Khabar 21, Media Tak, NewsWave_429, and onlinejobRK.

According to the Press Information Bureau's Fact Checking Unit, the YouTube channels in question featured videos with misleading claims such as Rs 51,000 in payouts to cover daughter's wedding expenses, Rs 2.5 lakh in benefits to ration card holders, fake news about Covid vaccines, and the Central Government exempting the cost of electricity. 

MediaTak: This YouTube channel was disseminating false information about COVID-19 vaccines and nationwide lockdowns. The channel had more than 250,000 subscribers. 

YTNewsNetwork: This channel was spreading misleading information relating to the Central Government, Election procedures, the EVM and several government investigation agencies. It had more than 150,000 subscribers and over 2 Crore views. 

onlinejobRk: The channel, which has over 13.6 million members and 1.4K videos, was spreading untrue information about the Government of India.

NITIGYAN4U: The YouTube channel's thumbnail falsely claimed that the Government of India would offer a ₹1000/1500/3000 allowance to young unemployed Indians over 21.
