Pakistan Violates Ceasefire Again Along LoC in Kashmir; Indian Army Responds, Diplomatic Tensions Escalate

In a fresh surge of hostilities, Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir during the night of April 25–26, drawing a swift and measured response from the Indian Army. This marks the second consecutive night of unprovoked firing from Pakistan’s side following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22.

Fresh Ceasefire Violations Across the LoC

On the intervening night of April 25–26, multiple Pakistan Army posts resorted to unprovoked small arms firing all across the LoC in Kashmir. According to defence officials based in Srinagar, Indian troops responded appropriately using small arms, and no casualties were reported in the exchange.

“On the night of April 25–26, unprovoked small arms firings were carried out by various Pakistan Army posts all across the LoC in Kashmir… Indian troops responded appropriately with small arms,” an official confirmed.

The recent incident marks the second ceasefire violation by Pakistan since the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of at least 26 individuals, most of them tourists. Prior to the latest violation, Pakistan had also opened fire along the LoC on the night of April 24–25, prompting retaliation from Indian forces.

Rising India-Pakistan Tensions After Pahalgam Attack

Tensions between the two nations have been on the rise ever since the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The attack left at least 26 people dead and many others injured, sparking widespread condemnation.

In response to the deadly assault, the Indian government has initiated a series of sharp diplomatic actions against Pakistan, including:

  • Suspension of the 65-year-old Indus Waters Treaty, a significant move in Indo-Pak relations.

  • Closure of the Attari land border crossing, halting overland movement.

  • Expulsion of Pakistani military attachés from India.

  • Mandate for all Pakistani nationals who entered India via the Attari border to leave by May 1.

Pakistan reacted by branding the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty as an "act of war" and retaliated by closing its airspace to all Indian airlines, further straining bilateral relations.

Arrest of Terrorist Associates in Kulgam

Amid the heightened tension and ongoing security operations, two terrorist associates were apprehended by Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. According to reports by ANI citing police sources, the arrests were made in the Thokerpora area of Qaimoh, further underscoring the volatile security situation in the region.

Global Reactions: UNSC and US Respond

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir. In a press statement issued by the 15-member Council, the international body declared:

“Those responsible should be held accountable and the organisers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism should be brought to justice.”

The UNSC described the April 22 attack as “reprehensible” and emphasized the need for justice for the victims and their families.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking on April 25, remarked that tensions between India and Pakistan have been a constant throughout history. He stated:

“There have been tensions on that border for 1,500 years. So you know, the same as it's been, but they'll get it figured out one way or the other. I'm sure... I know both leaders. There is great tension between Pakistan and India. But there always has been.”

As ceasefire violations persist and diplomatic hostilities escalate, the situation along the India-Pakistan border remains tense. The Indian Army continues to maintain a vigilant stance, responding appropriately to provocations, while the government has taken strong diplomatic steps to isolate Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. With global powers and the UN weighing in, the focus remains on maintaining stability and ensuring justice for the victims of terrorism.
