Har Ghar Tiranga 2025: 7.5 Crore Selfies and a Nation United in Patriotism

India, the world’s largest democracy, once again came together in 2025 to celebrate Har Ghar Tiranga, a nationwide movement that has grown into one of the largest participatory festivals across the globe. From villages to cities, from the mountains to the coasts, and from the skies to the seas, the tricolor—our beloved Tiranga—fluttered with pride, binding every Indian in a shared expression of unity, patriotism, and national pride.

This year’s campaign marked the 4th edition of Har Ghar Tiranga, launched initially in 2022 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Over the years, it has evolved into a vibrant cultural movement that strengthens the emotional connection of every Indian with the national flag.

A Movement of National Unity and Pride

Har Ghar Tiranga 2025 was observed from 2nd August to 15th August, engaging citizens through a series of mass outreach and participatory activities. The campaign unfolded in three phases—awareness creation, community participation, and celebrations—culminating on Independence Day with unparalleled patriotic fervor.

This year’s theme emphasized:

  • Voluntary action and civic participation

  • Cleanliness drives under Har Ghar Swachhata

  • Gratitude to India’s armed forces and police personnel

  • Deeper emotional connect with the Tiranga

A remarkable highlight was the introduction of the Tiranga Volunteer initiative, allowing people who might otherwise face limitations—whether due to age, technology access, or geographical challenges—to actively participate. More than 9 lakh volunteers came forward, carrying the spirit of the Tiranga across rural and urban India.

Prime Minister and National Leaders Laud the Spirit of the Tiranga

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, applauded the overwhelming participation of citizens. He expressed,

“Today, 140 crore Indians are adorned in the colours of the Tricolour. Har Ghar Tiranga is fluttering, whether from the deserts, the Himalayan peaks, the seashores, or densely populated regions and everywhere there is one echo, one cheer: the praise of our motherland, dearer to us than life itself.”

Home Minister Amit Shah also hailed the dedication of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), praising their “nation-first” spirit. Over 200 CAPF riders, along with Members of Parliament, participated in a symbolic Tiranga Bike Rally in Delhi on August 12th, further amplifying the patriotic enthusiasm.

Minister of Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat described Har Ghar Tiranga as more than just a campaign, calling it “a true people’s festival.” He emphasized how activities like Tiranga Rallies, Yatras, letter writing, Rakhi making, and selfie uploads had united Indians across all walks of life.

Selfie with Tiranga: A Record-Breaking Phenomenon

One of the most engaging aspects of Har Ghar Tiranga was the Selfie with Tiranga campaign, which witnessed historic participation. By 6 PM on 16th August 2025, more than 7.5 crore selfies were uploaded by proud Indians holding the tricolor.

According to Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture,

Har Ghar Tiranga and Har Ghar Swachhata: A Collaboration for National Good

This year, Har Ghar Tiranga was further strengthened through its collaboration with the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, and the Ministry of Culture under the banner of Har Ghar Tiranga, Har Ghar Swachhata.

This initiative beautifully tied patriotism with civic responsibility. Citizens not only celebrated the Tiranga but also reaffirmed their commitment to cleanliness, environmental stewardship, and access to clean water.

Key achievements included:

  • Over 1.8 crore Swachh Sujal Gaon pledges, reinforcing India’s journey towards universal sanitation and clean drinking water.

  • Special emphasis on linking the campaign with Swachh Bharat Mission (2014) and Jal Jeevan Mission (2019), both of which share their anniversary with Independence Day.

Women and Self-Help Groups: Powering the Movement

The demand for Tirangas across the country was met not only by large manufacturing units but also by women-led self-help groups (SHGs). Over the past few months, thousands of SHG members worked tirelessly to stitch and distribute flags, thereby generating income and livelihood opportunities.

Sustainable brands also joined in, recycling leftover materials from flag stitching, ensuring that the campaign aligned with India’s sustainability goals.

Participation Across Sectors and Communities

From States and Union Territories to ministries, corporates, industry bodies, and retail associations, every section of society actively engaged in Har Ghar Tiranga. Local activities such as Tiranga Melas, Har Desk Tiranga initiatives, rallies, and cultural programs added momentum and vibrancy to the celebrations.

This inclusivity ensured that the Tiranga was not just hoisted at homes but celebrated in workplaces, schools, offices, public institutions, and community spaces, truly making it a people-driven movement.

Tiranga as a Symbol of India’s Collective Spirit

Har Ghar Tiranga 2025 has not only rekindled the patriotic flame in every Indian heart but also strengthened the emotional bond with the Tiranga, turning it into a symbol of unity, responsibility, and resilience.

From 7.5 crore selfies to 9 lakh volunteers, from letters to soldiers to sustainable flag production by women’s groups, the campaign has become a testimony to how deeply the Tiranga resonates with 1.4 billion Indians.

The legacy of the Tiranga now shines brighter than ever, reminding us of the sacrifices of our freedom fighters, the strength of our democracy, and the collective pride of a nation marching forward—together, united, and draped in the colors of the tricolor flag.
