Heavy rains have caused flooding in several districts of Rajasthan, including Banswara, Dungarpur, and Pratapgarh. The Jaipur Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts for heavy to very heavy rain in multiple districts. Five districts have recorded over 100mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.
As a result, several major dams have overflowed, leading to the opening of gates to release water. This has caused waterlogging on major roads in the area. Banswara's Mahi Bajaj dam reached its capacity, and 16 gates were opened to release water. Other dams, including Kota Barrage, Jawai Dam, Kalisindh Dam, and Som Kamla Amba Dam, have also released water.
The eastern district of Banswara has recorded the highest rainfall of 365mm, with several other areas in the district recording over 200mm of rain. The IMD predicts that heavy to extremely heavy rainfall will continue in several districts until Tuesday.
The Met director in Jaipur explains that a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal has turned into a well-marked low-pressure system, which is now moving over Southeast Rajasthan and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh. The associated cyclonic circulation is expected to move gradually over southwest Rajasthan in the next two days.
