Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, condemned the attack, describing it as deeply disturbing. In a social media post, Abdullah stated that there is no justification for targeting innocent civilians and urged security forces to take swift action to prevent further violence. “The last few days have seen a troubling rise in attacks across the valley, and today’s news of a grenade attack on innocent shoppers in Srinagar is alarming. We must restore a sense of safety in the region so people can live without fear," he said on X.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha directed Jammu and Kashmir’s top security officials to respond decisively. Speaking with DGP Nalin Prabhat and senior security personnel, Sinha urged them to take all necessary measures to dismantle terror networks and ensure public safety. “You have full freedom to crush these terror outfits,” Sinha stated, emphasizing the Union Territory's commitment to eradicating terrorism.

Recent Surge in Attacks and Encounters

The region has witnessed a surge in terrorist activities in recent days, with multiple encounters between security forces and armed militants. Yesterday, security forces killed a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander named Usman in Srinagar's Khanyar area, though four security personnel sustained injuries during the operation. Additionally, two other militants were killed in a separate encounter in Anantnag district, adding to the escalating tension in the region.

Migrant Workers Attacked in Budgam District

Two migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh, Usman Malik and Sofiyan, were shot by suspected militants in the Magam area of Budgam district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday evening. Both men are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. In the wake of the attack, security forces have cordoned off the Magam area as they continue their investigation into the incident.
