Children Risk Lives Crossing Flooded Kunda River for Education in Madhya Pradesh
For the children of the Bhagwanpura area in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district, exercising their right to education comes at a heavy price—risking their lives daily. Following heavy monsoons, the local Kunda river is heavily flooded and overflowing. Due to the complete absence of a proper bridge, families are forced to hold their children's hands and navigate through the perilous, fast-flowing currents just to get them to school.
Similar terrifying scenes were witnessed on the nearby Kamri-Sagmali route, where locals crossed submerged pathways with bullock carts or by carrying children on their shoulders. According to the villagers, this is a grim annual reality during the rainy season, yet authorities have failed to provide a permanent solution. The construction of a single bridge could secure the safety and future of countless children in the region.
