The Jawaharlal Nehru University's most recent guidelines state that students who engage in violence or hold dharnas will be fined up to Rs 30,000 or possibly have their admission canceled. According to the new regulations, a student who physically attacks, abuses, or manhandles another student, staff member, or member of the faculty could be fined Rs 50,000.
The new regulations have drawn criticism and have been labeled "draconian" by university students and faculty. To address the new regulations, the JNU Students' Union has scheduled a meeting with all student organizations for Thursday.
Different acts have different punishments which are stated in the 10-page 'Rules of Discipline and proper conduct of students of JNU'. Acts like forgery and protest will lead to a proctorial inquiry procedure with the addition of recording a statement. The fine for punishments ranges from Rs 5,000- 50,000 and cancellation of admission.
