Attention all farmers and property owners in Madhya Pradesh!
The state government has introduced a stringent Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to prevent tragic accidents caused by open or abandoned borewells.
Under the new regulations, it is now mandatory to:
- Register any new borewell project with local authorities and obtain prior sanction.
- Cover all active borewells with a secure, welded iron plate.
- Fill any dry or failed borewells with soil, sand, or concrete within 90 days of abandonment.
-Upload proof (photographs) of the closed borewell to the official government portal.
What happens if you don't comply?
Negligence is no longer just a fine-based offense.
Owners and drilling agencies now face imprisonment and fines of up to ₹25,000.
Furthermore, in the event of an accident, the responsible parties will be held liable for the entire cost of the rescue operation.
Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
