The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra for today, July 25th. Additionally, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai. An orange alert has also been issued for Thane, Palghar, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Raigad, and Ratnagiri.
According to the IMD, the Konkan districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas, and the Ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra will also likely experience heavy to very heavy rain in isolated locations. Furthermore, the districts of North Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada are anticipated to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places. In contrast, Vidarbha districts may encounter thundershowers, gusty winds, and heavy rain in isolated areas.
In an update from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), it was reported that Tansa Lake, one of the water sources for Mumbai, began overflowing at approximately 4:16 PM today. Consequently, three gates of the Tansa Dam have been opened, releasing water at a rate of 3,315 cusecs. Tansa Lake's full storage capacity is 14,508 crore liters.

► Four killed in Pune amid torrential downpour
At least four people died in rain-related incidents on Thursday, while several houses and residential societies in low-lying areas in the city were inundated. NDRF and Army teams have been deployed for rescue efforts. Nearly 400 people were evacuated by Thursday afternoon.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert warning for Mumbai till tomorrow at 8:30 am. The weather department has predicted 'heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places" in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts.
► Nearly 400 evacuated as rain lashes Pune
About 400 people were evacuated on Thursday amid flooding along Sinhagad Road and other areas. Water entered several housing societies and houses in low-lying areas with cars and two-wheelers standing in water. Two columns of the Army were deployed in the Sinhagad Road area. Teams of the NDRF, fire brigade as well as the district and city disaster management cells were pressed into service to carry out relief operations.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges after the India Meteorological Department issued a Red Alert warning for Mumbai.
“BMC appeals to schools and the teachers to inform the representatives of guardians; and take necessary precautions and ensure proper coordination at the school level," the civic body added.

"Heavy rains in Mumbai are affecting flight operations and resulting in cancellation and diversion of some of our flights," Air India wrote in a post on X. Air India is providing complete reimbursements or a single, gratis reschedule for reservations validated for departure on July 25, 2024."

Mumbai has an "orange" alert in effect for the next three hours, according to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. "To take all necessary measures, I have spoken with the Mumbai Municipal Commissioner," the Maharashtra chief minister was reported by ANI.

In the Pune district, monsoon rainfall caused havoc on Thursday, resulting in three electrocutions and one fatal landslip.

Maharashtra Speaking with Raigad Collector, Chief Municipality Eknath Shinde gave him instructions to help everyone in the district affected by flooding and rainfall. He also promised the District Collector that the state government would assist him in every way.
