Mumbai airport receives $1M Threat, two days before 26/11 anniversary

An email threatening to blow up Terminal 2 of Mumbai's international airport in a blast has been received, with the sender demanding one million US dollars in Bitcoin to avert the explosion, as per police reports on Friday.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport received the threatening email on Thursday, leading to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) at the Sahar police station and the initiation of an investigation. The Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) operates the airport.

The email, received in the airport's feedback inbox at 11:06 am on Thursday, demanded the specified amount in Bitcoin within 48 hours to prevent the alleged blast at Terminal 2. The threatening message included a final warning and indicated that another alert would be issued after 24 hours. Following the reception of the email, an executive from the Quality and Customer Care Department of MIAL at Mumbai airport filed a complaint against the unidentified sender at the Sahar police station.

Following the filed complaint, an FIR has been registered against the unidentified individual, under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 385, which pertains to putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion, and 505 (1) (b), which relates to making statements with the intent to cause fear or alarm to the public or against public tranquility.
