Mobile Retailers Announce 'No UPI Day' on Oct 2 Over 0.4% MDR Charge

Planning to shop on October 2? Keep some cash with you. But there’s an important update.

Several trader groups had called for a “No UPI Day” on October 2, protesting the proposed 0.4% MDR on eligible UPI merchant transactions above ₹2,000, scheduled from October 15.

The retailers’ concern is that this additional cost could affect their already thin profit margins.

However, there’s been a major update: the All India Mobile Retailers Association and another trade body withdrew from the October 2 protest after meeting Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

So, UPI is not being shut down across India on October 2. Any disruption would depend on whether individual shops or local associations participate.

So if you're stepping out on Gandhi Jayanti, carrying some cash could still be a good backup.
