Major Blaze Breaks Out at Varanasi Railway Station, Leaves 200 Vehicles Destroyed

A devastating fire occurred early Saturday morning in the vehicle parking area of the Cantt railway station in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The fire destroyed over 200 two-wheelers and quickly engulfed the parking lot, causing great damage to the vehicles.

The footage from the site reported a huge fire burning out in the parking area and thick smoke billowing out into the air. Officials of the fire brigade supported by police teams were also seen fighting the fire. There were about 12 fire engines that were put in place at the site and police from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local authorities also made efforts to control the fire.

There were no reported injuries. And officials confirmed that all the personnel engaged in the firefighting activities remained safe. The fire was later contained within two hours of rigorous activity.

Cause of the Fire Traced to Short Circuit

According to preliminary investigations, the fire was caused by a short circuit in the parking area. CO GRP Kunwar Bahadur Singh said, "The fire was due to a short circuit. We are conducting further investigations."

Railway Employees Among the Affected

Most of the automobiles burned were railway employees, making their daily commutes more of a problem for those relying on them. One of the affected employees was seen talking to a newspaper about their experience. The employee stated, "I had parked my bike around midnight. A few hours later, I was informed that a short circuit had caused a fire, and when I went to check, the entire parking lot was engulfed in flames."

Damage Control and Investigations Continue

Local authorities are still investigating what could have caused the fire, while damage control activities continue to assess the entire damage. Meanwhile, work is being done to reach out to those affected.
