Maharashtra's Fisheries Department implements monsoon fishing guidelines

Illegal fishing had been brought under control by the Department of Fisheries in Maharashtra during this monsoon. This has been implemented shortly after the Karanja Port incident, where 14 fishing trawlers including 17 boats, were involved in illegal fishing activities.

Breeding and replenishment of fish is an important life cycle of fish breeding, because of this, the Marine Fishing regulation act of 1981, does not allow fishermen to be involved in extensive fishing during the monsoon.

“Illegal fishing is an issue we have to deal with every year, but given the scale of offence uncovered at Karanja, we have issued detailed guidelines for all district and sub-district level officials to follow,” an official from the fisheries department of Mumbai has mentioned this statement.
