Magnitude-6.4 earthquake strikes Afghanistan, mild tremors felt in Delhi NCR

The National Centre for Seismology said, "An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck Afghanistan on January 11 with tremors rippling through parts of north India,”

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicentre of the 6.4-magnitude earthquake was in the Jurm district of the Afghan province of Badakhshan, in the mountainous Hindu Kush area.
Mild tremors have been felt in Delhi and the National Capital Region. Tremors triggered panic among locals, with many in the national capital and surrounding areas reporting shaking of pieces of furniture and other interiors.

This is the third major earthquake to strike Afghanistan in three months. Reportedly, tremors were felt in Pakistan’s capital city, Islamabad, and the major cities of Lahore, Peshawar and Muzaffarabad.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from Afghanistan. Earthquakes frequently strike Afghanistan, particularly in the Hindu Kush mountain range near the Eurasian-Indian tectonic plate boundary.
