Madhya Pradesh bans drinking on the 'ahatas'

The Madhya Pradesh (MP) government has banned drinking in ahatas the areas for drinking attached to liquor stores and shop bars in the state. Additionally, the minimum distance between liquor stores and educational and religious institutions has been raised from 50 to 100 meters.

"The Cabinet has approved a proposal to close all (open-air) bars operating in the state. Now, liquor can only be bought and sold over the counter at liquor shops," Home Minister Narottam Mishra said.
