Madhya Pradesh: Women will now have 35% reservation in Government jobs

The Madhya Pradesh government has introduced a policy aimed at promoting gender equality and women's empowerment in government jobs. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has announced a historic decision to reserve 35% of all state government job positions exclusively for women during the direct recruitment stage.

Significance of this Policy

Horizontal and Compartment-wise Reservation: The 35% quota is not just a blanket reservation; it is applied horizontally and compartmentally. This means that it is distributed equitably across various government departments and sectors. This approach ensures that women have equal access to a diverse range of job opportunities, breaking down gender-based barriers that may exist in different sectors.

Exemption for the Forest Department: While the reservation is applied comprehensively across state government jobs, it is not applicable to positions within the Forest Department. This exemption aligns with the specific requirements and roles within the Forest Department, while still upholding the broader spirit of the policy.

Madhya Pradesh's Women's Empowerment Policies

Reservation for Women in Panchayat: Madhya Pradesh has a remarkable track record when it comes to championing women's empowerment in governance. It proudly holds the distinction of being the first state in India to introduce a pioneering 50% reservation for women in elections to panchayats (local self-governing bodies) and urban bodies. Additionally, the state has long recognized the importance of women's representation in law enforcement, with a pre-existing 30% reservation for women in the police force.

Women-Centric Schemes: Madhya Pradesh has also consistently introduced women-centric schemes and initiatives aimed at supporting and uplifting women across the state. These include concessional property registration tariffs for properties registered in a woman's name, the Mukyamantri Kanyadaan Yojana, and the Ladli Behna Yojana, which provides financial support to eligible women.
