Love knows no Bounds: Chennai Couples beat incessant rainfall to get married

Heavy rains in Chennai affected the people in the town in not just one way. Almost five marriages to be held in Anjineyar temple in Pulianthope a few months ago were delayed due to the incessant rains.  A rain holiday was declared on Friday in various parts of Chennai including Tiruvallur, Sivaganga, Madurai, Kancheepuram, Dindigul, and other districts. Several streets and roads were flooded due to the sudden incessant rains in Chennai and parts of Tamil Nadu. Schools and colleges were shut down and were given a holiday due to the heavy pours in the state.

Chennai rains and floods

The Anjineyar temple where almost five weddings were to be held was waterlogged and couples who were ready for their wedding ceremonies were completely drenched as they walked through the path inside the temple. One of the grooms who had to bear the situation appealed to the government seeking help to clear the water logging in the premises of the temple. He appealed saying, "The temple is completely waterlogged and we have got wet. I appeal to the government to take steps and clear the temple premises and other public areas."

On November 10, Chennai received 64.5 mm of rainfall from 8:30 am till November 11,  8:30 am. On the other hand, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) had 169 relief shelters readied in the city to shift the people from low-lying areas in case there are chances of flooding.

After a meeting of GCC Mayor R. Priya and Commissioner Gagandeep Sing Bedi, Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru told the media that arrangements for food and other necessities had been made for two lakh people at these shelters. According to the Minister, a total of 19,500 workers of the GCC and 2000 workers of Chennai Metro water corporation had been deployed to prevent the inundation of roads in Chennai.

The GCC has undertaken sewer cleaning work following the heavy rains and water stagnation on roads.

As per the  India Meteorological Department  (IMD), a low-pressure area over the Southwest Bay of Bengal with associated cyclonic circulation was causing heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

But nothing was stopping these couples to reach their beloved partners in a bid to get married the same day, hell or high water!
