A new group of 1,626 pilgrims set out from the base camp in the early hours of the morning to take part in the annual pilgrimage in the south Kashmir Himalayas. However, because of a landslip, they were forced to stop at the Chankerkote Yatri Niwas in the Ramban district. The landslip shut down the 270-kilometre Jammu-Srinagar national highway, which is the only road that can be driven on in any weather and connects Kashmir with the rest of the country.
