Umling-la, the world's highest motorable road at 19,024 feet, made history by hosting the world's highest international fashion show during the Vibrant Ladakh festival.

Unprecedented Record: Umling-la, located at an astonishing altitude of 19,024 feet, achieved an unprecedented feat by hosting the world's highest international fashion show.
Global Participation: The event witnessed the participation of international models representing 14 different countries, making it a truly global affair.

Organizers: The fashion show was organized by the Union Territory Ladakh Administration and Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh. It was conducted in collaboration with the Ladakh Art and Entertainment Alliance and received support from the Indian Army and Border Roads Organisation.
Cultural Showcase: The Umling-la fashion show aimed to showcase and promote the vibrant culture of India, emphasizing the concept of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam'. It also highlighted the highly valued GI-tagged Pashmina of Ladakh, promoting sustainable and responsible tourism.

Fashion and Pashmina: The models donned costumes that introduced the colour palette of spring and summer 2024. Additionally, the event featured products made from Pashmina, a renowned textile produced in the Changthang region of Ladakh.
Recognition: Tashi Gyalson, Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor of LAHDC Leh, praised the event for setting a world record and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for enabling foreign tourists to stay in Hanle, allowing the models to overnight there.

Symbol of Unity: The spirit of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' was evident in the participation of international models, further solidified during the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Buddha Statue at Umling-la, where sands brought by foreign models were integrated.
Administrative Support: The event also received commendable support from the Indian Army and Border Roads Organisation.

Border Tourism Promotion: Executive Councillor Tashi Namgyal Yakzee highlighted the significance of such unique initiatives in promoting and strengthening border tourism, which has seen considerable growth under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
Global Peace Initiative: As part of the 'One Earth, One Family' theme of G20 India, a foundation stone was laid for the construction of a Lord Buddha statue at Umling-la, symbolizing world peace. Sands from various countries brought by the models were immersed in this noble endeavour.
