Kerala's First International Calligraphy Festival to begin in Kochi

Kochi will host the inaugural International Calligraphy Festival of Kerala (ICFK) from October 2 to October 5, 2023. This unique event will bring together calligraphers from around the world to showcase their incredible work.

ICFK will feature a rich program, including exhibitions, workshops, enlightening talks, live demonstrations of calligraphy, quizzes, and various entertaining activities. Organizers have grand plans to establish this as an annual event, with future editions potentially incorporating musical concerts and performances that blend calligraphy with art and music.

The esteemed Kerala Lalithakala Akademi is the proud host of this festival, with Industries Minister P. Rajeeve inaugurating the event and Kerala Lalithakala Akademi chairperson Murali Cheeroth presiding over the inaugural ceremony.

ICFK is a collaborative effort involving the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, the Information and Public Relations Department, and the Thiruvananthapuram-based organization Kachatathapa, led by calligrapher Narayana Bhattathiri. Distinguished calligraphers, including Hebrew calligraphist Michel D’Anastasio and renowned Indian calligrapher Achyut Palav, will be among the participants.

This festival provides a unique opportunity to explore various calligraphic styles and scripts, including Malayalam, Devanagari, English, Hindi, Arabic, Urdu, Hebrew, Irani, and Korean calligraphy. ICFK promises to be a captivating blend of artistic expression and cultural exchange that should not be missed.
