On Saturday, June 1, a Delhi court reserved the order on the interim bail plea made by Arvind Kejriwal on medical grounds till June 5. This was related to the money laundering case previously made on Kejriwal in the alleged liquor policy scam. Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in this case. The Supreme Court had granted him interim bail, which ends today and consequentially requires him to surrender tomorrow, June 2.
Highlights of today’s hearing:
Representing the ED, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta pointed out that Kejriwal had already made a statement about his surrender on June 2nd, 2024. He added,
“We have objections to the filing of interim bail as well. This court cannot modify the Supreme Court order.”
N Hariharan, Kejriwal’s Senior advocate, clarified that the interim bail was to campaign for his national party, not on medical grounds.
“It's not a plea for an extension of the SC order, it is an application for medical bail” - Hariharan.

ED while opposing Kejriwal’s plea said that The Supreme Court had granted him an opportunity to file for a regular bail but “the Liberty to seek the extension of interim bail was not granted”.
”Application for interim or regular bail can't be granted unless he is in custody. He is not in custody…..If he is not in custody, the application is not maintainable. He has to surrender. There is no control of this court, there is no order of this court granting interim bail" SV Raju (ASG).
In his plea, Kejriwal has mentioned serious health concerns ranging from fluctuating levels of sugar to high ketone levels and significant weight loss. A grant of medical bail is required from him to conduct certain tests.
However, the ED representatives accused Kejriwal of making false claims concerning his health and using the interim bail plea as a ploy to deceive the court. Kejriwal had filed two separate petitions for regular bail as well as interim bail. The hearing for the former is scheduled for June 7. Recently, ED accused Arvind Kejriwal's party, AAP, in the money laundering case too. AAP leaders like Manish Sisodia and Sanjay have been accused in the case previously too.
