Kejriwal Resigns: Delhi CM Hands Over Reins to Governor

A political shift  was witnessed in the nation's capital, Delhi, today as Chief Minister of  Delhi Arvind Kejriwal, who is also AAP chief, quit as Chief Minister today after meeting with L-G V.K. Saxena. Today in the afternoon he submitted his resignation to Lieutenant-Governor during the meeting. The party leaders have elected Atishi as the new Chief Minister-designate. It is a historic moment for the party and for Delhi politics. The CM for Delhi was finalised in a meeting of AAP leaders in New Delhi today.

 


Arvind Kejriwal quits, and Atishi takes over

Kejriwal's resignation had been understood to be inevitable since he had said the other day that he wanted to resign. In the meeting, Atishi submitted a formal proposal on forming a new government in the presence of the Lieutenant Governor. This is AAP's new chapter, as Atishi would be given a new role leading the state government. She happens to be a respected leader, an experience administrator, and has also been the mascot of AAP's governance in the last couple of years. Especially, she is identified with education and health sectors.

Atishi has been long considered one of AAP's most energetic leaders, who played a significant role in changing the face of the Delhi education system. She had catered to the government schools with her much needed reforms, so the quality of education earned exceptional praise for all classes of people. She used to get personally involved with public welfare programs, hence in this role, she will be expected to work further in favor of people depending upon social welfare, health, and infrastructure improvements.
