Karnataka experienced a day of unrest as protests broke out throughout the state amid the ongoing Cauvery River water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) had recently requested Karnataka to release water to Tamil Nadu, a move met with resistance due to lower rainfall in the Cauvery catchment area.
As a result, pro-Kannada groups organized a 12-hour statewide bandh, bringing life in Karnataka to a standstill. The impact was felt most acutely at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, where 44 flights, including 22 arrivals and 22 departures, were cancelled due to the strike. Passengers were advised to follow updates from airlines and law enforcement agencies.
Additionally, schools, colleges, and educational institutions in Bangalore were granted a holiday, and prohibitory orders under Section 144 were imposed in several districts. Protests were primarily allowed at Freedom Park, with warnings issued regarding potential property damage. Over 50 individuals associated with the pro-Kannada organizations were detained.\
