As the border standoff in Eastern Ladakh continues, now in its fifth year, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met in Astana. Convening concurrently with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit was the gathering.
Both ministers concluded their conversation that neither side is benefiting from the ongoing situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Jaishankar underlined India's position that reciprocal sensitivity, interest, and respect are necessary for bilateral ties. He demanded a redoubling of efforts to settle the outstanding border disputes via diplomatic and military means.
The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized the importance of fully adhering to previous bilateral deals and protocols to maintain peace and tranquility along the LAC. Both ministers agreed to maintain and broaden meetings between their friendly and military counterparts to help resolve border issues.

They additionally decided that the Mechanism for Consulting and Collaboration on India and China Border Affairs (WMCC) should meet as soon as necessary.
In addition to border debates, Jaishankar conveyed India's support for China's forthcoming SCO presidency. The ministers additionally addressed the global situation and confirmed their commitment to improving bilateral relations.
