On December 31, 2024, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) experienced another significant outage, disrupting Tatkal ticket bookings during peak hours. Users attempting to access the website and mobile application encountered error messages indicating that booking and cancellation services would be unavailable for the next hour due to maintenance activities.
Over 700 Complaints Registered During Incident
This disruption led to a surge in user reports on platforms like Downdetector, with around 700 complaints logged during the incident.
Passengers Vent Frustration on Social Media
Frustrated passengers took to social media to express their dissatisfaction, particularly as this outage occurred during the critical 10 AM window for Tatkal bookings. Some users alleged system manipulation, noting that only premium Tatkal tickets, priced at double the standard rates, were available after services were restored.
Second Outage in a Week Highlights Platform Issues
This marks the second major disruption within a week, following a similar outage on December 26, 2024, which lasted approximately 1.5 hours.
IRCTC has not yet provided a detailed explanation for these recurring issues, leaving users concerned about the reliability of the e-ticketing platform during peak booking periods.
Passengers are advised to monitor official IRCTC channels for updates and consider alternative booking methods during such outages.
